1964 – 2014: Fifty years
teaching activity, intellectual and research community
The Faculty of Philosophy, the first School of the University of Ioannina, was founded in 1964 in the heart of northwestern Greece, in a city with a deep intellectual tradition. Distinguished scholars were invited to teach both the locals and the students who began flocking from all over Greece. They cultivated “the finest letters” with clear and purposeful goals: the education of young people and the development of multifaceted personalities. These individuals, together with their enlightened professors, struggled for education and freedom during the difficult years that followed.
Humanities Studies are aimed at teachers who are oriented towards Secondary Education and at the same time at preparing scientists who will take part in research. translate the above into English
In the Departments of Philology, History and Archaeology, Department of Philosophy (former Department of Philosophy), various academic subjects are taught, which are reinforced by Erasmus+ student and staff exchange programs, internships, summer study programs, educational workshops, archives, notable museums, educational excursions, workshops, conferences and lectures. The Postgraduate Programs, interdisciplinary, interdepartmental and interuniversity, have to demonstrate a high level, as is evident from the subsequent scientific presence of their graduates and doctors.
